The new Mayor of Southwark has chosen the charities to receive funding this year, and all three focus on giving opportunities to young people.
Cllr Michael Situ, the newly appointed Mayor of Southwark, has selected St Giles Trust, the Salem Academy and London Community Kitchen as beneficiaries this year.
Each spring, the Mayor hosts a charity ball as a fundraising event for the supported charities.
Cllr Michael Situ said: “The Mayor’s theme for the year is Building for the Future: Empowering Young People, where our focus is on ensuring young people in the borough have the right opportunities, to create the future they deserve.
Tracey Burley, CEO of St Giles Trust, said the support would allow them to carry on their work despite the cost-of-living crisis.
“We are delighted to be one of the Mayor’s chosen charities and thrilled to work together to develop our services in the borough and support more people to turn their lives around.
“St Giles Trust was first formed in Southwark in 1962 as The Camberwell Samaritans and over the decades we have helped local people who often have nowhere else to turn to. With the Mayor’s support, we look forward to bringing the Southwark community together over the coming year so we can help create and inspire positive changes, with the aim of leaving no one behind, as we tackle the continuing challenges of the cost-of-living crisis.”
