SHAUN Williams could return against Nottingham Forest on Friday – and give Millwall a potential goal threat from midfield.
Williams has scored in two of his last three appearances against Forest, but the Lions have only had three goals from central midfielders this season. Williams has two, Ben Thompson the other.
Gary Rowett revealed Jayson Molumby is “desperate” to add goals to his game, but the Lions boss wants to see the whole side trying to contribute for the remaining 10 games of the season.
“Willo’s scored a few goals and had a hand in a few goals,” Rowett said. “Ryan Woods is not really that type of player. He’ll sit and dictate the game for you, give you that possession.
“Jays has got into some really good positions and I think that’s something for him to try to add to his game. He’s desperate to do it, you see him in training and he’s desperate to go and score.
“I think he’s the type of guy that one goal will then spark off a few goals. It’s an area it would be nice to have a bit more goal threat from.
“But then you could go through the team and say that. Coops [Jake Cooper] should have more goals from set-pieces, Pearcey [Alex Pearce] should have more goals from set-pieces, our forwards.
“We haven’t scored enough goals, clearly, and that’s something where you’re looking to see where you can get them from.”
Meanwhile, Rowett gave an update on the three absent midfielders.
He said: “Thommo’s not trained [fully] yet. Hopefully he will next week which will be positive. Again, we need to be patient, he’s been out for a while.
“Lenny should train today, but one training session, one-and-a-half, before the game is a tough ask.
“Willo’s trained twice. We have to assess what we think is reasonable, what we think we need for the game. We’ll have to make a call on that ahead of the game.”
