A “godsend” Sydenham food bank has received a £1,500 boost from a Bermondsey developer.
Barratt London, which is behind the Bermondsey Heights development, made the contribution to Rehoboth Community Outreach Club last month.
Since 2013, the community centre has expanded from a small operation to a 25-volunteer-strong organisation offering a food bank, training and mentoring services.
Service users have described the charity as “a godsend” where staff are “very friendly and very welcoming”.
Paula Walker-Litchmore, Founder of Rehoboth Community Outreach Club, said: “We have seen our team grow which is great. However, it is reflective of how much work is needed.
“Our volunteer’s commitment and contribution has been integral to the success of the outreach program and have helped to positively impact the lives of those in need within our community.”
Barratt London has provided the funds as part of a community fund scheme that aims to improve the quality of life for people living in and around the borough.
The Bermondsey Heights development, based at Ilderton Road, will include 253 residential apartments, of which 76 will be affordable, once completed.
Steve Thompson, Managing Director for Barratt East London comments: “Our community fund scheme is all about supporting organisations like Rehoboth Community Outreach Club, which addresses local needs, support local initiatives, and fosters a sense of community spirit.
“As we continue to navigate through the cost of living crisis, while many vulnerable people are struggling to put food on the table, it’s great to see the vital work the team does in providing nutritious meals to the community. We hope the donation helps continue this much needed support.”
