It is tough to see the departure of Andrew Nunn, the Dean of Southwark Cathedral, who retired this month after lengthy distinguished service.
Andrew will be greatly missed and I’ve enjoyed the events to help everyone show their appreciation for his efforts locally, including a fitting farewell reception at Borough Market and a beautiful service at the Cathedral.
Andrew was integral to the work rebuilding the local community after the Borough Market and London Bridge terror attack in 2017 with a strong message of love and unity.
He leaves the cathedral, congregation and wider community stronger than when he joined and we are all grateful for his amazing contribution.
However, some goodbyes are welcome: Johnson and Truss’ departures were especially, given the damage they have done to our country which will take years to unpick.
Only last week the average five-year fixed mortgage rate has risen above six per cent as inflation continues to soar due to the Tory mini-Budget wrecking the economy.
The Tories used to claim to be the party of home ownership but have failed to build homes, failed to help leaseholders affected by new fire safety regulations, and failed to help renters by delivering promises to scrap ‘no-fault’ evictions or prevent sky-high rent increases.
The Tories also claimed to be the party of law and order but ignore fraud and antisocial behaviour, have seen rape prosecutions plummet, and we still have fewer police officers than in 2010.
The police have re-opened their investigation into the Christmas Tory law-breaking parties though.
The ‘Jingle & Mingle’ party held during a covid lockdown was an insult to everyone following the rules and making sacrifices, including not seeing loved ones at the end of their lives.
The current Prime Minister was fined for attending one party during lockdown but now spends millions of taxpayers’ money during a cost-of-living crisis trying to withhold information about the events.
He needs to come clean, share all information and not waste a penny more trying to cover the mistakes he made as Chancellor and continues to make now in Downing Street.
He claimed this week he had not read the Partygate investigation report. Perhaps it was too long for him at 4.5 pages.
His Ministers are frustratingly blocking my amendment to the Consumers’ Bill going through Parliament.
I want dangerous products removed from online marketplaces when identified by customers or British businesses.
I aim to ensure Trading Standards and other agencies can do their job and protect customers from e-bike chargers that melt, or toys that don’t have fuses in the plugs and there is little excuse for Government inaction.
Mum makes desperate plea after an e-bike fire on Old Kent Road killed her only daughter Sofia Duarte
I have secured amendments on each Bill Committee I have been on previously and hope my success rate continues now!
We are approaching Parliament’s summer recess when I get to spend even more time locally so if you’d like me to run an advice session or community meeting to discuss any issues affecting you then please get in touch!
