Seven Islands Leisure Centre in Rotherhithe will soon re-open its doors to the public following a £1.68million facelift.
The centre, located in Lower Road, is set to fully re-open by spring once extensive improvement works are completed.
The centre’s cycling studio is now open while further work continues, including work to refurbish the pool and improve accessibility for disabled users. The gym and reception area are expected to open the week commencing February 20, while no fixed date has yet been set for the re-opening of the pool in spring.
In a statement on the Everyone Active website, a spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, since works began and on closer investigation we discovered some additional issues that need to be urgently addressed in order to avoid further closures at a later date.
“This means the works will now take longer than expected. We’re really sorry for this delay.”
The temporary gym is still available in the sports hall, the public is advised.
In the meantime, members can use the swimming pools at The Castle Centre in Elephant and Castle, Camberwell Leisure Centre, Peckham Pulse Healthy Living Centre, and Dulwich Leisure Centre.
While the Seven Islands showers are out of action, members of the public are advised to use the shower facilities at Surrey Docks Fitness and Watersports Centre located ten minutes away.
