Frank Lampard is taking on his first managerial role this season, and he moved quickly to appoint ex-Chelsea team-mate as his assistant boss.
The former England international made his first moves in the transfer market this week, going back to his former cub to sign midfielder Mason Mount on loan.
Mount, 19, has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Chelsea, but played 38 times on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem last season, scoring 14 times as they finished sixth in the top flight.
Derby also agreed a loan deal with Liverpool for 21-year-old winger Harry Wilson. He scored seven goals in 13 games on loan at Hull last season.
Lampard is certain to add again to his squad in this transfer window, ahead of an expected promotion challenge.
Prediction: Play-offs
Lampard always talks a lot of sense on TV as a pundit, analysing well and seemingly having a deep understanding of the game, leading me to believe that he will be a good manager. His tactical knowledge looks to be sound. It’s also said he was a “players’ player”, which should mean he has good man management skills.
If they can add a defender to their ranks – Leicester’s Robert Huth has been linked – then there is no reason why the Rams can’t battle for the top two in 2018-19.
