AIDOMO Emakhu has sustained an ankle “niggle” while already out with a shoulder problem, adding to his injury woe.
The 20-year-old has missed the last three Millwall games after dislocating his shoulder in training earlier this month.
There had been hopes he might return for the home game against Preston North End this Saturday but Emakhu’s latest setback will see him definitely miss that match.
The forward rolled his ankle while rehabilitating from his shoulder issue, leaving him in a protective boot that some fans have spotted him in during match days.
But Millwall boss Joe Edwards insists it’s a minor issue and the protective boot is precautionary.
He told NewsAtDen: “As part of his rehab, he was doing a session where he rolled his ankle and it just picked up a bit of swelling.
“The boots are a real good precautionary device but sometimes they instil panic when people see it and they think someone had broken their foot and is out for a long time. It’s definitely not a serious injury that Aidomo has picked up but the boot enables you to take weight and pressure off any injury that you do have, so that’s all that was.
“So yeah he has picked up a niggle but it’s not something that’s going to add loads of extra time onto the original period he was going to be out for. The boot was just a precaution.”
Edwards said Emakhu will definitely miss the game against Preston while he was “doubtful” to make the trip to Hull City the week after.
The Lions boss added: “I think Hull would probably be touch and go. I think Hull looks doubtful at the moment. Preston is a definite no and given the fact he was still having some swelling on his ankle yesterday, I’d say Hull is going to be a tight as well. But it doesn’t fall into the category of a long-term injury.”
Emakhu, Tom Bradshaw, Shaun Hutchinson and Ryan Leonard will all miss the Preston game but Millwall have incurred no fresh injury concerns during or since the defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Bradshaw had a second scan on his hamstring injury at the end of last week. The Welshman picked up the issue in the days before the Middlesbrough game will be out until next month at least.
Edwards said: “What we were looking for to see if there was anything worse than what we first learnt and the scan definitely ruled out anymore serious injury than what we first thought. I suppose it was good news in that respect but it doesn’t mean it’s great news and Bradders is going to be on the pitch next week.”
