SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has revealed that Andy Ambler approached Steve Kavanagh about becoming Millwall’s new chief executive.
Kavanagh is replacing Ambler, who is taking up a new role with the FA, but Millwall have yet to officially announce the move.
Martin also said he didn’t know when Kavanagh would be leaving to join the Lions.
“Steve has a six-month notice period in his contract so we’re not too sure when he’s going to be making the move just yet,” Martin told the Echo.
“I don’t think Andy is leaving Millwall until the end of September so there’s no immediate rush and we obviously need to be able to find a replacement.
“We will need to advertise the position and interview for it as well but I’m not sure if that will all be concluded by the end of the month.
“Steve will remain committed to us while he’s still here.
“He didn’t apply for the Millwall job, he was approached about it by Andy but we wish him all the very best with them.”
