MILLWALL boss Neil Harris won’t be letting his players get ahead of themselves after Tuesday night’s 4-0 League Cup demolition of Barnet made it two wins from two this season.
The Lions lost to the Bees at the same stage of the competition last season but despite showing five changes from the side that defeated Oldham 3-0 last Saturday swept aside their League Two opponents.
Millwall now head to MK Dons on Saturday and Harris is wary of a side that were relegated from the Championship last season.
“I was really pleased with all the boys that came into the side and it certainly gives me food for thought for the weekend,” Harris said.
“It is a vast improvement in twelve months but we’re not going to get carried away with two wins in four days.
“They were two tough games but we’ve got even tougher ones coming up. MK Dons are going to give us a completely different test at the weekend, they’re going to keep the ball and use it well. They’ve got some real quality in their team.
“We’re going to have to have a different approach. What we can do is and what I can promise is that in every game we’ll compete like we did (Tuesday).
“We’ll have that same attitude and desire and work ethic and sometimes the quality will come on go.”
Millwall came under pressure against Barnet in the second half on Tuesday and the home side registered as many shots on target as the visitors.
But Harris was pleased with how Jordan Archer and his defence coped with the challenge.
“The scoreline flattered us,” Harris admitted. “We need to stop giving silly free-kicks away around the box because that will hurt us. We also know that teams are going to create chances against us, especially when they commit four or five players up front, and that’s when you need your goalkeeper and defence to stand strong.
“We have a reliable keeper who can make saves. Jordan showed that, his handling was good, his kicking is improving all the time.
“I’ll digest this game after watching it back and see what we can learn for it. My focus and the players’ focus now is MK Dons on Saturday.”
