JIMMY Abdou says Millwall is where he enjoyed the most memorable moments in his career – and is proud to have stayed at the club for so many years.
The Lions legend ended a ten-year stay at The Den at the end of the season after it was confirmed that the club wouldn’t be renewing his contact.
Abdou, 33, spent last year on-loan at League One outfit AFC Wimbledon and announced last week that he would be returning to French fourth-tier side FC Martigues, the club where he started his playing career in 2002.
He made 342 appearances for the Lions, scoring nine goals.
He said: “It’s been a long journey. For me, leaving Millwall is like leaving the family. Obviously, I wasn’t here last season but I tried to manage to come to games when I had the time.
“Millwall means a lot to me. It’s where I had the best time in my career. It’s a big part of me. It just hit me that I am going to leave my club.”
“For me, it’s been a great experience – something I never thought I would be able to do. To stay at the same club for many years – it’s something I am very proud of.
When asked whether he will return to The Den in the future, Abdou replied: “Yes, definitely.
“My son is a proper Millwall fan. I will have to come back. For me, but for him as well. I will be back for at The Den hopefully.”
