NEIL Harris says the club is aiming to build its future around young players such as Aiden O’Brien and Fred Onyedinma.
O’Brien, 21, formed a fruitful partnership with Lee Gregory towards the end of last season while Onyedinma has excelled on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.
Harris will be at Wembley this weekend to watch 18-year-old Onyedinma as he aims to fire Wanderers into Sky Bet League One at the expense of Southend United.
He has scored eight goals in 18 starts for Gareth Ainsworth’s side.
“I’m going Saturday to see young Fred,” Harris said. “Hopefully he gets on if he’s not starting. It would be great for him.
“We are looking to keep them at the club long term. Certainly, they’ve got a big part to play here next year.”
John Marquis, 23, who has been the subject of interest from Gillingham this week, is another that Harris wants to sign a new deal.
The Millwall manager isn’t surprised that other clubs are showing interest but feels the younger members of the squad would be best served by continuing their development with the Lions.
“The reality is when you’ve got good young players people are interested.
“We’re building a team and a squad to compete for our future and our young players are a big part of that. We want them to develop with us and get the club back where it wants to be.”
