MILLWALL cannot afford to be distracted by their rivals’ results as they battle to stay in the Championship, Neil Harris has warned.
The Lions are seven points adrift of Rotherham after they beat Brighton on Easter Monday, with the Millers travelling to promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough tomorrow.
Fulham, who are a point above Rotherham, host second-from-bottom Wigan at Craven Cottage tonight.
Owing to Blackburn’s involvement in an FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool earlier this week, Millwall now have a game in hand on Steve Evans’ side.
But while Harris would rather have been in action on Monday, he insists the Lions cannot concern themselves with matters which are out of their hands.
He said: “We’d love to have played on Monday or Tuesday but it wasn’t to be and we can’t control fixture dates.
“We can only worry about what we’re doing. I can’t control what Rotherham, Fulham or Brighton do. It’s nothing to do with us.
“If they win their games and we win our games, they will finish above us. All we can do is worry about our next game and trying to get a result in that.
“If we don’t win games, we haven’t got a chance of catching the teams above us anyway. I find it really simple to focus on what we’re doing.
“We’re so engrossed in what we’re trying to achieve that other results are just other results really.”
Harris says there has been a big boost in his squad’s confidence levels since they defeated local rivals Charlton.
“There’s a great atmosphere and the boys are buzzing around training,” he said.
“A bit of pressure’s been taken off because beating Charlton was a reward for their hard work.
“Getting that reward was important to help keep momentum going but we’re mindful of where we are and the position we’re still in.”It’s a good start but there is a long way to go.”
