MILLWALL completed a league double over Bury last season, but they were made to work for it.
A physical battle at The Den in November ended in a single-goal victory for the Lions, courtesy of Shaun Williams’ first-half strike.
In the return game at Gigg Lane in late April, a Chris Taylor double helped Millwall to a 3-1 win.
The loanee opened the scoring after just four minutes, but Ryan Lowe’s strike reduced the arrears for the Shakers shortly before the break after Steve Morison had double the Lions’ lead.
Taylor, however, had the final say seven minutes from time, completing his brace and handing Millwall three precious points in their hunt for a play-off place.
After a brief flirtation with the play-offs, Bury faded away in the second half of the campaign and eventually finished in 14th place.
In 2016-17, the Shakers possess the quality and firepower to sustain a top six challenge once more.
In addition to Leon Clarke, former Port Vale striker Tom Pope will look to score the goals needed, whilst in ex-Manchester United midfielder Chris Eagles, David Flitcroft’s side have plenty of flair and creativity.
The biggest issue for Lions fans travelling to Gigg Lane next season may come from public transport.
The nearest train stations are Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly – both over 20 minutes away!
