MILLWALL’S next Championship opponents Huddersfield Town need to ‘remind’ themselves how to win after their 28th defeat in their last 33 league games on Sunday.
The Terriers, without a win in their previous 17 league games, led West Brom 2-1 at The Hawthorns with 20 minutes left.
But Slaven Bilic’s Baggies scored three late goals to leave Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield bottom of the table. They have just one win in their last 33 league fixtures.
Millwall haven’t won in five Championship games after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to QPR.
“Probably at about 60 minutes we started to play for the end, there’s definitely issues physically and mentally, there’s no hiding place from that,” Cowley, in charge for the second game after moving from Lincoln, said.
“We have to remind everyone how to win football matches, we have to make sure we make wins happen.
“When you don’t do that, you’re negative in possession and the opposition get sustained pressure. An opposition as good as West Brom will hurt you in that moment.
Cowley and his brother Nicky led Lincoln to successive promotions before Huddersfield made their approach.
“We’ve given the players an unbelievable amount of information in this first 10-day period, it’s difficult,” Cowley continued. “Sometimes you have to overload them and a consequence of that is sometimes they forget things.
“I’m not too concerned about the goals because we can work on those tactically. The more we work and rehearse the less mistakes we will make.
“What I saw today was enough fight, not from everyone, but from most, and that gives me encouragement moving forward.”
“It’s not going to be easy, let me tell you, and it doesn’t matter what the players in that dressing room have achieved in their careers.
“Let me tell you now, the moment we’re in, and the moment this football club has been in, if we can find a way through this it will be the great achievement of all of our lives and that to me is something that is really exciting.
“At the moment we’re maybe a team who has forgotten how to win and how to manage the game in that moment, and that’s something we’ve got to keep working towards.”
