NEIL Harris is hopeful Carlos Edwards will be back for the next Sky Bet League One game against Colchester on November 21.
Edwards, 37, pulled up in the 34th minute of the 5-3 win over Plymouth and was replaced with centre-back Sid Nelson, who was forced to play out of position.
Harris believes Edwards’ experience was a factor in the right-back deciding to signal he needed to go off.
“It’s a tight hamstring,” Harris said. “He missed the weekend with a tight hamstring and it looks like the same thing. With Carlos, at his age, he knows when there is a problem coming so hopefully we got it early enough. He might be available for Colchester but it’s early days.”
Edwards was under pressure at times against Plymouth’s pacey winger Gregg Wylde, and Harris instructed Fred Onyedinma to be watchful in front of substitute Nelson to deal with the threat.
The pair performed with defensive discipline in the second period and Wylde was withdrawn in the 69th minute.
Harris said: “Sid Nelson was outstanding when he came on. What I try and do with the young players in particular is give them support and allow room for error.
“Somebody like Fred Onyedinma, his understanding of playing on the right of midfield in a 4-4-2 is way beyond his years and he works hard at his game.
“When Sid came on I asked Fred to help him a little bit and sit a bit deeper. But what Sid does do in terms of the errors he might make at right-back, he makes up for in communication.
“He’s a great talker for a young man and that’s why he got the captain’s armband last year. Between them I was really impressed with how they dealt with a really good attacking threat down the left for Plymouth.”
