A retail park on the Old Kent Road could be turned into buildings up to 48 storeys in height, including hundreds of homes and a hotel.
While designs are yet to be finalised, Southernwood Retail Park is likely to be redeveloped into a mixed-use scheme of up to 800 residential units, flexible retail uses and a hotel up to sixteen storeys in height with up to 250 rooms.
Buildings on the site, which is currently home to Argos, Sports Direct, Carpet Right and DFS, would range in height up to 48 storeys.
The development could also feature cycle parking, car parking, play space, landscaping and public realm improvements.
The proposed mix and number of residential units is yet to be confirmed.
The 1.4-hectare site, bounded by Old Kent Road, Rowcross Street, Humphrey Street, and Rolls Road, is managed by DTZ Investors for Strathclyde Pension Fund.
DTZ has submitted a request to Southwark Council for an Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Opinion ahead of putting forward a full planning application.
