The owners of Rock Steady Rum Lounge in East Dulwich has closed down after nearly 27 years of trading in North Cross Road.
“The past three years have been challenging. Increasing costs and reduced footfall combined have created difficult trading conditions,” owner Mel Nugent wrote in a post on their website.
“The decision to close will end 26.5 years of trading on this site in East Dulwich.
“During this time I have met many, many wonderful people, made life-long friends, I have seen couples meet, newborns become adults, and witnessed a fast-changing community.
“At this point it is no longer viable to keep this restaurant open, so we will take some time to consider the future.
“I cannot express in words the depth of gratitude for the support that I have enjoyed in this community.
“It has been a privilege and a joy. I will miss you.”
Rock Steady Rum Lounge, opened in 2018 after and Mel Nugent and partner Trudy Darien-Nugent relaunched Blue Mountain Café, a North Cross Road staple since 1993.
