Residents have been evacuated, trains suspended and a large cordon put in place after a ‘major’ gas leak in Walworth this morning.
The leak, which was discovered this morning shortly before 10am, is believed to be coming from a manhole on Manor Place.
Trains have been suspended on lines through Elephant and Castle to Herne Hill while emergency services are responding.

Homes and businesses have also been evacuated as a precaution, with Manor Place and Crampton Street both shut off.
Although Walworth Road remains open, people are advised to avoid the area unless ‘absolutely necessary.

It is believed the leak could take several hours to fix.
In the meantime, The Castle Centre has opened its doors to anyone affected.
