A man has been charged with the murder of missing 24-year-old Maureen Gitau as police continue searching for her body.
Maureen, from Deptford, was reported missing by her family on December 10 and was last seen on December 5 when she left her home on Evelyn Street.
Mark Moodie, 54, of Nightingale Place, Woolwich will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, January 3).

In the days following her disappearance on December 5, Maureen’s family and friends tried to contact her but without success.
Police at first said there was “no evidence” that Maureen had come to “any harm” but fears mounted as the investigation progressed.
Police then arrested Moodie on Friday, December 30, believing that Maureen has suffered “serious harm” despite not having found a body.

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said at the time: “Whilst we have not located Maureen’s body we have reason to believe she has come to serious harm and has likely been killed.
“Maureen’s family have been informed and they will be supported by specialist officers.”
