Children from a Bermondsey primary school joined hundreds of other pupils to celebrate the tenth anniversary of a school food charity last week.
On Thursday, June 15, 500 children came together at Westminster Abbey’s College Garden for a huge picnic to celebrate the tenth birthday of School Food Matters.
The charity, based in south west London, invited 50 schools, including Boutcher CofE Primary, to join them along with celebrity chef Tom Aikens and gardener Chris Collins for a food-themed celebration.
The day saw the children pedal smoothie bikes, attempt to identify exotic fruit, and culminated in a ‘picnic-off’ in which Tom Aikens judged the best picnic items.
Food Matters was set up by Stephanie Wood at her kitchen table in 2007, after she became concerned about the food in her children’s school.
