A sixteen-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of murdering a London South Bank University student.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murdering Andre Bent, 21, following a disturbance on Maidstone High Street, in Kent, in the early hours of Sunday, August 25.

The teen, from Hornsey, north London, was arrested on Sunday, September 1 and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court the following day, before being remanded in custody.

Victim Andre had suffered injuries “consistent with being stabbed,” said Kent police.

Andre, of Lambeth, had studied Business Management at London South Bank University.

The teenager, who is next due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on September 24, has also been charged with the attempted murder of three other men and possession of an offensive weapon.
