Southwark News has been presented with an engraved glass trophy, in recognition of a four year fundraising campaign which hit its ambitious target of £100,000.
The News team took part in a wide range of challenges, put on events and encouraged readers to join in their mammoth effort. And last Thursday, at an internal group briefing of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust, Managing Director Chris Mullany and Advertising Manager Tammy Jukes received the trophy and were then given a tour of the neonatal unit, seeing some of the vital equipment that the money had paid for.
Chris said: “The money we raised is really just a drop in the ocean for what the Evelina needs and uses. As we’ve said all along, if it was your child being treated, you would want the very best equipment there was, and it really brought that home to us when we revisited the ward this week.
“The staff at the hospital are an inspiration and the work they do is extraordinary – it has been a privilege for us to try to help.
“Thank you to all those readers who joined in our efforts – please do let us know if you have fundraising plans for Evelina in the future – the money is always needed!”
