RYAN Leonard says Millwall need to “put things right” against Sheffield Wednesday after their 1-0 defeat to Swansea on Saturday.
The clash against Steve Bruce’s side is the first of five in 15 days including the last-16 FA Cup match at AFC Wimbledon next Saturday.
Defeat at the Liberty Stadium leaves the Lions just four points above the relegation zone.
“Obviously, we didn’t get the result we wanted, but there were aspects of the performances that I thought we did well in,” Leonard said.
“There were also aspects that we need to improve on, like any game really, but we have to take the positives. We have to go again, we have got a big month ahead and a lot of big games coming up.
“The gaffer has reiterated that the squad is going to be needed in the next few weeks and obviously we’ve got a lot of games coming up, so we need everyone to stay fresh and to be ready to go.
“We have got to try and put things right against Sheffield Wednesday now at The Den. It’s always nice to have another game come around just as quick, so we can try and put things right on Monday, go through it and see where we need to improve and hopefully put things right on Tuesday evening.”
Leonard has performed different roles recently, and played behind striker Lee Gregory against Everton with Tom Elliott injured.
Leonard said: “I’m happy to play anywhere, to be honest, whether that is a bit deeper or a little bit further forward. I’m happy just to play and do my best.
“[Elliott] has been a miss. T gives another dimension to the way we play. We can play it up to him and off him, but we can also get it down and give it to feet.
“I’m sure he’ll be back fighting for the next few games whenever he is fit. Hopefully we can try to get him on the end of some crosses and get him some goals and try and build some results.”
Millwall face tricky matches at Derby and Hull this month.
“There are a few difficult away trips on Tuesday nights, which is part and parcel of the game,” the midfielder said. “That is probably our fault for doing so well in the FA Cup.
“The fans were brilliant today [Saturday]. We didn’t create a hell of a lot in the game, but the fans stuck with us and gave us their backing and hopefully that can continue for the rest of the season. They travel in numbers wherever we go.”
