MILLWALL boss Neil Harris expects a competitive battle between Murray Wallace and Shane Ferguson for the left-back spot with both set to see plenty of action this season.
Wallace started there against Preston on Saturday and was outstanding as the Lions won 1-0.
Ferguson was one of Millwall’s best players last season despite the struggles of the side, and also offers the option to play on the left wing.
“It’s a good debate and I think the fans would have a good opinion on Murray and Fergie and probably a sensible opinion,” Harris said. “Both have different attributes.
“We thought it would be a defensive-minded game against Preston, we fancied that they’d play the way they did. We don’t always get it right, how the opposition are going to play, they do surprise you at times.
“We read it right at the weekend and we thought Murray might deal with that side of the game, the one-v-one defensive stuff a little bit better than Shane. Both have great attributes and are going to play a lot of minutes this year.
“I’m not pigeon-holing Shane just as a left-back competing with Murray for that position, because Shane showed great qualities on the left of midfield last year as well. But I do really like Shane at left-back, he’s a really attacking threat for us from that position.”
