ANDY Ambler is hoping the 2016-17 League One fixtures are kind on Millwall ahead of Wednesday’s release.
The Sky Bet League One fixtures will be released at 9am on Wednesday morning with Ambler hoping the new schedule will fall kindly for Neil Harris’ men.
Last season saw the club make many long trips on Tuesday nights and the Chief Executive expects one of those, Fleetwood Town – the longest of them all – to remain that way.
“I hope the fixture list is kind to us” he said. “I hope the local games are put into the right format and we get decent games over the Christmas and New Year period.
“I think we will get them [Fleetwood] on a Tuesday. I think clubs want those sorts of games mid-week.
“Last year was unusual with the northern bias in the league – at least the teams coming up aren’t quite as geographically challenging as they were last year.
“But, I am expecting Fleetwood away on a Tuesday night again – we might not get that, but I expect it.”
A welcome aspect last season was the introduction of beam-backs to The Den.
The trip to Wigan and the away game against the Fleetwood were shown in the Executive Lounge – something that Ambler has not ruled out continuing in 2016-17.
He said: “We’ve probably done more beam-backs last season than ever before, to help people see the games.
“The beam-backs were well received. It isn’t a case that it’s our gift to do it – we have to apply to the league and the opposition club.
“For example, if we were to have Fleetwood at home and on a Tuesday night like last year, I think they would want to do it as well. The technology is there and it works.
“We got quite a few people here last time, so I think we should look at the fixture list first before we decide on that one.”
