NEIL Harris has given an insight into the atmosphere inside Millwall’s dressing room as they pursue an unexpected top-six Championship finish – saying his players are “loving it”.
Harris revealed the squad were buzzing before their trip to Sheffield United on Saturday, not feeling any pressure despite being one of the sides being chased having moved into the play-off spots for the first time last week.
Millwall were dominated when they lost 2-0 at Bramall Lane last season, but despite going a goal down late on at the weekend came back to draw.
“It shows the belief in the group and the spirit in the camp, to go there and not be fazed after going a goal behind,” Harris said.
“People have written us off for months and months now, but we deserve to be where we are. Wherever you are after 43 games is where you deserve to be, it doesn’t lie.
“Will we see it out and get into those play-off positions? Only time will tell. What I do know is my players are loving it.
“The atmosphere in the hotel, training, the journey up, in the changing room before, during and after the game was phenomenal.
“It’s not a carefree attitude, but it’s an attitude that we know we have overachieved and it’s not often you get these opportunities in football.
“Last year we had to achieve in League One, we had to be one of the top-six sides in that division. It was a pressure situation. There are a lot of teams in and around that top nine or 10 at the moment…well, all of them should be above Millwall this season.
“We’ll enjoy every moment of it.”
Harris also praised his front pair Lee Gregory and Steve Morison, the latter who scored to earn a point for his side when he volleyed home in the 76th minute.
Harris said: “When you play 4-4-2 against 3-5-2, securing the ball is key in the game. First half my centre-forwards didn’t secure the ball well enough, we didn’t use the ball well enough.
“But Lee Gregory and Steve Morison for the last three years have been an absolute handful. They can create a chance out of nothing, and that showed in a key moment.
“It’s not just the belief the do it, it’s [Morison’s] technique to finish it.”
