SHANE Ferguson was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland eased to a famous victory over Ukraine at EURO 2016 on Thursday evening.
The game was temporarily suspended due to bad weather halfway through the second half, but before that, Gareth McAuley’s header had given the Irish the lead.
With the clock running down and with six minutes of stoppage time at an end, Niall McGinn slotted home to hand the Green and White Army an unforgettable win.
That gave Northern Ireland their first points of the competition, moving them up to third place in Group C.
Germany’s goalless draw with Poland in the final match of the day means that Michael O’Neill’s men have a chance of topping the group and avoiding one of the top seeds in the Last 16.
Should they be defeated by Germany in Paris next Tuesday, it is likely that Ferguson’s side could qualify via one of four best third-placed slots.
Unbelievable atmosphere and performance from all the boys tonight #gawa
