Harry Girling has thanked Jordan Archer for helping him during his time at the club – and said he has received a lot of unfair criticism in recent months.
The 20-year-old was released by the Lions at the end of the season after not making an appearance for the first-team during his two professional years at The Den.
Girling appeared on the bench 14 times during his Millwall career, most notably for the FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham in 2017 and spent a lot of time with Archer on the training pitch.
“People are very quick to criticise. Not just Jordan, but goalkeepers in general. They don’t see the stuff that goes on behind closed-doors. The work that Jordan puts in.
“As a person, I can’t fault Jordan at all. He isn’t a self-centered person. He tried to benefit my game and even the young goalkeepers below me, like Ryan Sandford. He’s just a good person to have around and I believe he deserves to be where is.
“People forget all the good things he has done this year. He has kept Millwall in games this year. He is still young and hasn’t even reached his prime yet. He deserves everything he has got.
“I am not surprised he has been called up by Scotland.”
