NORTHERN Ireland will have to attempt to qualify for Euro 2020 through the play-offs after their 0-0 draw at home to the Netherlands on Saturday.
Steven Davis missed a penalty for Michael O’Neill’s side with Millwall’s Shane Ferguson an unused substitute.
They travel to Germany on Tuesday night but can only finish third in Group C.
Young Lions right-back Danny McNamara made his Ireland debut as Stephen Kenny’s under-21 side won 1-0 in Armenia on Thursday. Zack Elbouzedi’s goal was enough to decide the contest and Ireland are top of their group, but all their rivals have games in hand.
Ireland play Sweden on Tuesday.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson played two 90 minutes as Iceland drew 0-0 in Turkey and defeated Moldova 2-1 away. They finished third in Group H and will also have to try to qualify for next year’s tournament through the play-offs.
