AIDEN O’Brien won his fifth international cap to help the Republic of Ireland to a 1-0 win over Georgia in their European Championships qualifier in Dublin on Tuesday night.
O’Brien, 25, came on in the 74th minute for Robbie Brady, initially playing on the right side of midfield before finishing the game in a lone striker role.
Conor Hourihane scored the only goal of the game from a free-kick to give former Lions boss Mick McCarthy two wins from his first two games in his second spell in charge.
O’Brien was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Gibraltar on Saturday. Ireland are top of Group D, ahead of their next qualifier against Denmark in June.
Northern Ireland also have two wins from two to top Group C.
Shane Ferguson and Conor McLaughlin both came on as second-half substitutes in their side’s 2-0 win over Estonia in Belfast last Thursday.
Ferguson came on in the 85th minute as Michael O’Neill’s side followed that up by beating Belarus 2-1 at home on Sunday, with McLaughlin on the bench.
