JAKE Cooper is looking forward to a “massive” game against Wigan at The Den on Tuesday – and hopes his side can take more of the chances they are creating in games.
Millwall lost 3-1 to Reading on Saturday despite having 12 shots on target to their opponents’ four.
Murray Wallace equalised after Yakou Meite had put the Royals in front before Mahlon Romeo was harshly penalised for a foul and Sam Baldock scored the resulting spot-kick.
Meite wrapped up the win with a header from a corner late on, and Cooper also claimed there had been a foul on Ben Amos before it, with Marc McNulty standing closest to the goalkeeper.
Millwall had nine shots on goal to Nottingham Forest’s two in their previous game on the road, meaning Neil Harris’ side have conceded five goals in two away games from six shots on target by opponents.
“We were really good in open play and creating chances at their end but it was disappointing to give away goals in the manner that we did,” Cooper said. “The set-plays and the penalty we’re disappointed about, the [penalty] decision, obviously, and then it’s a blatant foul on our goalkeeper for the third goal.
“We just feel hard-done-by that we put in a good performance but we didn’t get the result we wanted.
“We felt we were dominating them at the start of the game and maybe needed to get that goal to put us on top, but that’s the way the game goes. They scored a good first goal and we’ve got back in the game, but unfortunately the penalty decision has let us down and we’ve had to chase the game from there.
“It was disappointing to give away a goal at the end but we had some great chances. They were clear-cut chances that we should have put away, but it’s good we are creating chances and hopefully next game or other games we’ll be able to put them away.
“It’s early in the season and Tuesday would have been a big game anyway no matter what the result was [Saturday]. Tuesday is massive, a big game back at The Den and back in front of our own fans. It’s one to look forward to.”
