BEN Thompson was Millwall’s best player from January 1 of the 2018/19 season, based on Lions fans’ ratings on NewsAtDen.
Thompson averaged 7.16 in the 13 games he played following his return from his loan spell at Portsmouth, higher than the 6.38 of overall Player of the Year, Lee Gregory.
Thompson provided crucial impetus to Millwall’s efforts to beat the drop from the Championship, scoring four goals and excelling in an advanced midfield role.
NewsAtDen decided to look at the player ratings from January 1 as there were significant contributors who didn’t feature in the first half of the campaign.
David Martin finished just behind Thompson, averaging 7.15 over 11 games after he became Millwall’s first-choice goalkeeper from February. Martin kept four clean sheets in 10 league games, and earned praise for how he responded to his mistake against Brighton in the FA Cup.
In third place was Alex Pearce. The 30-year-old centre-back joined on loan from Derby in January and became a regular in the team from March, starting Millwall’s last 11 games of the season to help guide them to safety.
Pearce averaged 6.27 over 14 games in all competitions.
