GARY Rowett says Millwall are not desperate for midfield reinforcements despite Billy Mitchell being ruled out of the start of the season with a hamstring injury.
Mitchell was expected to push for a place in the side after impressing Rowett last season and over pre-season, but the 19-year-old (above, left) will now have treatment as he recovers from the setback.
Rowett has Shaun Williams, Ryan Woods, Ryan Leonard and Ben Thompson competing for midfield places ahead of the opening game of the season at Crawley Town in the EFL Cup on September 5.
However, Millwall do retain an interest in Jayson Molumby, whose immediate Brighton future should become clearer over the coming weeks. If Molumby (above, right) is not given assurances he will be involved with the Premier League side this season then he will look for another loan move. The Ireland under-21 midfielder would be interested in a return to the Lions.
Millwall have until October 5 to sign players in this window.
“I think we’re okay,” Rowett said. “We’ve got Willo, Woodsy, Lenny and Thommo. We’ve got four players that can all play in a two comfortably.
“Billy’s not out for the season, so I don’t think there’s necessarily desperation to fill that position right now.
“If something comes up that can add to what we’ve got and we feel it’s the right thing to do then obviously we’ll look at it.
“But it’s not a position I’m desperate to fill at the moment.”
