A 26-year-old who was caught drink driving and then failed to show up to court was disqualified from driving for twelve months.
Kemar Smith was pulled over when he accelerated away from a set of traffic lights in John Ruskin Street, Camberwell, on November 16.
He failed a road side breath test and proved to be around a third over the limit.
But because he was away studying at the University of Southampton he claimed he did not open a letter in time that advised him of his court date.
When he eventually appeared in the dock at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court last Friday, Smith admitted charges of drink-driving and failing to surrender to bail.
Magistrates fined Smith, of Law Street in Borough, £215.
