Elmington Estate’s TRA chair has urged people to stay at home as much as possible during the warm weather and amid ongoing confusion over the ‘stay alert’ message.
Val Fenn said her estate’s community hall had been closed since March but despite this there was still lots of support for self-isolating residents – and praised Southwark Council for the help it was giving to the vulnerable.
She believes some of her family may have had COVID-19 early on, before the lockdown, after being unwell for several weeks with Coronavirus symptoms.
“We should have locked down earlier than we did,” she told the News, “I don’t think people are taking this seriously, and it’s not fair to those who are in lockdown.
“I have been in lockdown for 69 days, and it is hard.
“Our community hall has been closed since March, and does not have a date of opening.
“People need to listen and act upon what it’s all about.
“Stay home and keep safe for the sake of others. Too many lives have been lost.
“The NHS is working so hard, and lives have been lost caring for others.
“Please respect, others wear a mask and gloves and stay at home as much as you can.
“There is a lot of help and support out there. Southwark Council are keeping in touch, and food banks are there as are helpers for those who are unable to get out.”
We know the lockdown is dragging but we're all in this together. If you are out and about this bank holiday weekend please be aware of other people, keep your distance and be considerate – now, more than ever, kindness matters #SouthwarkTogether pic.twitter.com/pi4rYFGRsm
