GARY Rowett has played down the importance of Millwall’s league position despite the Lions moving into the play-off places after yesterday’s win against West Brom.
Goals from Callum Styles and Tyler Burey saw them beat West Brom 2-1 at The Den, a result which moved the South Londoners up to fifth in the Championship table ahead of today’s fixtures.
However, Rowett is keen to ignore their position in the league at the moment in order to focus on continuing their winning run which currently sits at four games.
“I’ve been second in January in the Championship and people have talked about getting promoted that year, that was at Derby,” he explained after beating the Baggies.
“I’ve seen how it works. I’ve seen how easy it is to go from the position where we’re getting a little bit of stick to, all of a sudden, I’m sure that everyone is being really, really positive.
“As a manager, you have to find a little bit of balance somewhere. I won’t worry too much, I might enjoy my glass of wine a little bit more tonight, but that’s about it.
“My focus really is on the next game and see if we can maintain the energy levels, I think that’s the most important bit.
“If we play with that same energy and that same desire, then some games we won’t play with the right quality but we’ll be really hard to beat and to play against. I think that’s what we’ve proved this week.”
