LEICESTER City defender Ben Chilwell has finally responded to Steve Morison’s claim that he bottled taking throw-ins at The Den – saying it is “a load of rubbish”.
After Millwall dumped then-Premier League champions Leicester City out of the FA Cup in February 2017, Morison said that left-back Chilwell had stopped taking throw-ins during the game due to intimidation from the home fans.
Following Shaun Cummings’ injury-time winner that sent the Lions into the quarter-finals, Morison said: “The left-back, he started taking throw-ins and after a couple of bits of verbal he didn’t want to take a throw-in. I’m not being funny, he said his fingers hurt him.
“Come on, we’re playing football. He didn’t want to take a throw-in after that. He asked the centre-half to take the throw-ins in the first half. You either sink or swim when you come here.”
But Chilwell (above, as Cummings fires in the winner) has refuted Morison’s claim.
“It was a load of rubbish,” Chilwell said, when asked about it on international duty with England. “I think one of the older players for Millwall maybe wanted to get at one of the young boys.
“I’m not going to look into it. It is strange. But each to their own. If that’s what he wants to do, I’ll let him do that. I just focus on myself, on my performances.
“I heard about it from a few people. If that’s what someone wants to say, that’s up to them. I’m just focusing on my football, which is obviously playing for Leicester.”
Chilwell made his England debut in the 0-0 Nations League draw in Croatia on Friday. Gareth Southgate’s side play Spain in Group A4 tonight.
