NEIL Harris has said that new signing David Worrall was highly recommended to the club.
Speaking to NewsAtDen, the Millwall manager spoke of his admiration for the ex-Southend winger, plus what Lions fans can expect to see over the forthcoming season.
“I’m really pleased,”Harris said. “He comes highly recommended from people that have worked with him – people that have played with him.
“I’ve watched a lot of him over the last couple of years and seen his style of play. He’s a hard working wide-man that likes to get down the line and cross the ball. He can also fill in at right-back if needed.
“He predominantly plays on the right side to cross the ball with his right foot from all different angles, but he is happy down the left on his left foot, too.
“He’s quite an aggressive wide player with the ball and he isn’t afraid to put his foot in and compete, which is important at our football club.
“He was by far the best player in Southend’s promotion winning team in League Two.
“We kept an eye on his situation last summer, but they went up, so it was too early to do anything to get him. We followed him all season and he had an outstanding game against us at The Den.
“I personally watched him play five or six times last season and he has been very good on each occasion.”
Chief Executive Andy Ambler added that Harris was pleased to get the signing over the line and that Worrall will be “important” to the club.
“Neil has been tracking David for a long time,” Ambler said. “We needed strengthening in wide positions and that is exactly what Neil is doing.
“Dave is the first of two or three summer signings, hopefully. We will see how it goes in the next couple of weeks with one or two others.
“He is a player that Neil admired for a while and he turned down the opportunity to stay at Southend, so we got him quite quickly. I think it was important to get it done – it’s a good signing.”
