MILLWALL assistant manager Adam Barrett was far from pleased with how the Lions defended in the second half of their 2-1 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.
The visitors defended well in the first half of the match, albeit that Rovers struggled to create many clear-cut chances, but six minutes of madness saw them trail 2-0 shortly after the hour-mark.
Jake Cooper’s header gave Millwall hope with just under 15 minutes to play, but Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men held on to extend the Lions’ winless away run.
“I hate using that word ‘frustrating’, but that’s exactly what it is,” Barrett said after the match.
“I thought first half, we come into half-time at 0-0 relatively pleased. I thought we had the better of the chances first half, didn’t quite take them, but the real hard thing to take is that it’s another error away from home that has gifted them the goal. That’s what it was, a gift.
“That’s something we’ve got to cut out because there’s been too many away from home, and then you’ve got an uphill task, it makes life difficult. We got ourselves back in the game with Jake’s goal and then we had good opportunities at the end to nick a draw.
“We’ve got to stop coming from one, two goals behind. You’re ideally at 0-0 and then making the changes with the impact that you’ve got to go and win the game.
“It’s been too often away from home that that’s happened. We pride ourselves on our defensive record, which has been very good over the last few years, and we looked solid in the first half. I don’t think that they had an attempt at goal or maybe one, but we’ve got to cut these little errors out because it’s an opportunity.
“We’ve gifted them a goal and it’s difficult, it’s a difficult league, so we’ve got to make sure that we need a reaction on Wednesday. We’re expecting a reaction from the boys, but it’s that little moment of concentration, you can’t lapse for one moment or you’ll go and get punished.
“Unfortunately, at the moment, any little lapse that we are having, teams are punishing us.”
