MIDFIELDER Billy Mitchell has said that Millwall’s squad has benefited from a full week without a Championship game.
Speaking to Millwall TV+, the 21-year-old said: “it’s been nice to have a Saturday-to-Saturday break for a while.
“The fixtures have been quite congested, so I think it’s been good for the lads to get a little bit of extra rest in the legs and obviously allow us to build on what was a positive result on the weekend going into Bristol.”
Manager Gary Rowett doesn’t necessarily see things the same way, although he admits that the Lions will be better off for not needing to travel over the course of the week.
“I think it’s a week without a game, and obviously the training ramps up in a week where you have no games,” he told NewsAtDen.
“If you asked most of the squad after Tuesday what a nice easy week they’d had, I think they’d probably disagree because we worked incredibly hard and covered what looked like 70, 75 percent of how a game looks physically.
“They’ve worked hard, but it gives you that chance to work with a bit more freedom and a little bit less pressure of a midweek game. Certainly no travelling, which for us at the moment is a little bit of a luxury.
“We’ll definitely head into the weekend a little bit fresher, we’ll definitely head into the weekend well prepared. Again, all of those things are important, but they’re only important if you utilise them within your performance.”
