PORTSMOUTH were top of League Two for 10 minutes over the course of the entire season – but it was the last 10 minutes and they went up as champions.
Doncaster Rovers lost four and drew one of their last five games as Pompey pipped them at the post on the last day.
David Forde played in every one of Portsmouth’s league games as Paul Cook’s side defeat Cheltenham 6-1 at the weekend to clinch the League Two title on goal difference from Plyouth.
Forde, 37, heads back to Millwall but is out of contract next month.
Lions defender Sid Nelson was part of Newport County’s great escape after they survived with a minute left in the season having been 11 points adrift of safety in March.
Newport were down in the 89th minute with Hartlepool beating Doncaster 2-1, before Mark O’Brien scored a dramatic winner to snatch a 2-1 victory over Notts County.
