JAMES Brown will be given the opportunity to show he is good enough for a first-team squad place this season, Neil Harris said.
Right-back Brown, 21, has made one senior Lions appearance, in a 2-1 win over Gillingham in a Football League Trophy game at The Den in October 2016.
He spent 2017-18 on loan at League Two Carlisle where he played 34 times.
A loan spell at Livingston followed at the beginning of the next season, and he made his debut against Celtic at Parkhead. But the manager who signed him, Kenny Miller, left the job in the first month of the campaign and Brown went back to Millwall.
He joined Lincoln on a short-term deal last season but didn’t play for Danny Cowley’s side.
Brown will see first-team action in the Lions’ pre-season friendlies.
“What I want to do is give people like James Brown a real opportunity to nail down a place in our squad,” Harris said.
“He’s been out on loan, not had the best loan experiences but showed real promise pre-season the year before last and then last year when he came back to us before going out to Lincoln. He was first class in training.
“Someone like James will certainly have an opportunity to show his qualities and ultimately I want to be able to promote from within. I want to be able to leave space in the group for young players to come through.
“James has shown the qualities to be able to do that.”
