GEORGE Alexander scored the winner for Millwall against Sheffield United at The Den on Friday afternoon as a number of first-team squad members saw competitive action during the international break.
With the Lions’ senior side not in action this weekend, Luke Steele, Jason McCarthy, Shaun Hutchinson and Tom Elliott all started for Kevin Nugent’s side in their Professional Development league fixture.
Alexander scored the winner eight minutes from time from a headed assist by Elliott.
Reece York had earlier hit the woodwork for the visitors and Steele had to stretch to save an effort from Illiman Ndiaye.
In the 82nd minute, Elliott nodded Reuben Duncan’s corner across goal and Alexander finished to the net.
Millwall: 4-4-2: Steele; McCarthy, Hutchinson, Ransom, Tiensa (Moss, 46); Burey, Mitchell, Debrah, Duncan; Elliott (Bradbury, 91), Alexander.
Subs: Fanshawe, Strachan, Munting.
