JAKE Cooper was pleased to get back on the score sheet again – but would have enjoyed it more in front of a packed away end at Charlton last Friday.
Cooper’s 81st-minute winner was just his second goal of the season, and only his second-ever with his foot after his flick against Derby last season.
Cooper followed in after Dillon Phillips had spilled Connor Mahoney’s shot, Lions fans having to enjoy the goal on Sky Sports rather than in the stadium.
“It was nice to get back on the score sheet,” Cooper said. “I haven’t scored many like that, it was nice to score from open play and to be involved high up the pitch.
“The only downside was not being able to enjoy it with the fans. It would have been some atmosphere behind that goal if it had been in normal circumstances. It would have been a packed-out away end, I’m sure.
“Hopefully they could enjoy it at home and they had a good weekend because of it.”
Lions boss Gary Rowett has given his centre-backs more responsibility going forward in open play.
Cooper added: “The gaffer spoke to us last week about playing higher up, overlapping in wider areas. I enjoy getting forward, I took it into my own hands and tried to make things happen when I could.
“I saw the opportunity late on, we were going for it, we needed the points and I was fortunate the ball landed at my feet.
“I think I’d scored one goal with my foot ever, a little flick against Derby.”
