JIMMY Abdou is to extend his stay with Millwall into a 10th season after signing a new one-year deal.
Abdou – who turns 33 today – had been out of contract since the end of June and was free to talk to other clubs.
There had been speculation Abdou would leave for a guarantee of regular first-team football. He had played just 18 games last season before being recalled to the side for the must-win clash at Bristol Rovers on the final day.
He then played every minute of the play-off campaign as Millwall won promotion from League One, but Lions boss Neil Harris since signed midfielder George Saville from Wolves.
When Abdou was asked about his future between the play-off semi-final and final he said: “My position has never changed, my priority is to stay at Millwall.
“When the season ends we can sit down and have a talk about my future.”
Abdou turned down the offer of a new deal last month, and Millwall had a bid for Southend United’s Ryan Leonard rejected with Harris trying to add to his midfield options.
Abdou joined Millwall from Plymouth in 2008 and has played 342 games and scored nine goals for the club.
The midfielder will now be entitled to a testimonial at the end of the 2017-18 season.
