Elephant Park and adjacent Castle Square, in the Elephant and Castle, will play host to a range of events over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend, starting Thursday June 2 and finishing Sunday June 5.
The festivities will begin with Thursday’s ‘Welcome to the Gaybourhood’ party at local bar and restaurant Bobo Social, Sayer Street.
Bank holiday revellers are invited to a free night of pop, disco, dancing queens and two for one drinks between 6 and 7pm. RSVP here to register a spot.
Friday signals Castle Square’s street party where, from 11am until 5pm, guests can enjoy a day full of music, food, drinks and live performances.
Local traders will be cooking up dishes from around the world which can be sampled in the sunshine thanks to an al-fresco dining area.
Each trader will provide an exclusive Jubilee menu. Guests can choose from Coma Y Beba’s Sandwich Super Special, Daddy O’s Jollof Rice, Curried Goat from Original Caribbean Spice and more.
Performances from Magician Paul Longhurst and free face-painting sessions will also offer distraction for the kids.
Throughout the day, well-known musician Roberto Pla will be filling the air with Colombian jazz music.
Bookending the weekend is the Elephant Park community street party on Sunday June 5, featuring food, crafts and theatre.
Gardening-based arts and crafts sessions will be open to the public, as well as a free showing of ‘Ana and Silly’, the Blue Elephant Theatre’s latest play.
The play is the story of a squirrel called Ana and her cousin, Silly, and is suitable for children aged two and over.
Just over from Elephant Springs, cafe and bar Little Louie will be hosting a Camberwell Connection Hi-Fi session from 1 until 7pm.
Camberwell Connection is a collaboration between musical artists Dubplate Pearl & Mr Swing Easy, who deliver reggae, soul and jazz beats on original vinyl.
Elephant Park and Castle Square are less than a five-minute walk from Elephant & Castle rail stations.
