The film Rye Lane (2023) has been long-listed for five BAFTA categories including ‘Outstanding British Film’.
Set in Peckham, the sun-drenched rom-com follows Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson) who spend an eventful day together after a chance encounter.
Viewers get to see a host of familiar south east London locations including Peckham, Brixton and Brockwell Park.

It’s also jam-packed with classic south London iconography including Morley’s chicken shop, Brixton’s Nour Cash & Carry and the independent cinema Peckhamplex.
Directed by Raine Allen-Miller, the quintessentially British flick received rave reviews and has a stunning 98 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The picture has already grabbed a haul of accolades including ‘Best First Feature’ at the Toronto Film Critics Association and ‘Breakthrough Performance’ at the British Independent Film Awards.
If Rye Lane is on the final shortlist for ‘Outstanding British Film’ it could be up against big-budget blockbusters like Napoleon (2023) and Wonka (2023).
Vivian Oparah is being given 20/1 odds on getting ‘Best Actress’ putting her level with Margot Robbie for Barbie (2023) but behind favourite Lily Gladstone for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).
The 2024 BAFTAs will be held on Sunday, February 18 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
