Police are offering a £20,000 reward to catch a violent thug who brutally assaulted a heavily pregnant woman, resulting in the loss of her baby.
Malorie Bantala was walking home when she was set upon by two men in motorbike helmets in Talfourd Place, Peckham, on Monday June 15 at around 8pm.
The university graduate was 32 weeks pregnant when the two men pushed her to the ground and continually kicked and stamped on her stomach before they ran off in the direction of Denman Road – still wearing their crash helmets.
A neighbour called an ambulance but after waiting over an hour, the police cancelled the call and took Malorie to hospital in the back of a squad car.
Despite the best efforts of the hospital team, she tragically lost her baby and was in intensive care for days.
One man has already been charged and awaits trial but the substantial sum is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a second suspect, described as being in his twenties.
Detective Inspector David Suddick, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “Although one man has been charged, we have yet to identify the second person involved in this horrific attack.
“The victim has recovered physically from her ordeal but naturally remains devastated at the loss of her baby.
“Somewhere out there is a very violent individual and we hope the offer of this reward may encourage someone to come forward. If you have any information, please contact us.”
Malorie’s white iPhone 5s went missing during the attack and the police are also appealing for this item to be handed in.
The community where Malorie Bantala lives on the Pelican Estate were ‘devastated’ by the vile attack and decided to create a ‘peace wall’ in support of the family last month.
Joan Morris, chair of the Pelican Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, is in the process of coordinating young people from the area to paint a mural of a dove on the wall of Crane House as a symbol of peace, looking out over the scene of the attack in Talfourd Road.
Anyone who has any information which may help trace the second suspect should call the incident room on 020 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
