A beloved pub is to reopen after receiving more than £600,000 to upgrade their premises.
The Cambria, on Kemerton Road in Denmark Hill, will reopen in late March 2022 after the major donation which came partly from the pub’s new operators, Prospect Pubs & Bars, who own four other venues across London.
The donation also comes from the Heineken owned Star Pubs & Bars, who lease out the majority of their 2,400 pubs to small businesses.
The new design promises to be eclectic and to reflect the colourful neighbourhood that surrounds it.
This includes a garden room with a retractable roof and sides, kitted out with festoon lighting and plants.
Outside, a large and well-lit front terrace will have seating for 70 more people on sofas, with blankets, low tables and wooden chairs.
Mark Draper, director of Prospect Pubs & Bars, said: “We’re excited to bring The Cambria back to life and back into the heart of this vibrant community.
“These last couple of years have demonstrated the strength and value of a good local community pub, one that customers can call their own and where they can feel at home, and we can’t wait to be a part of this in Camberwell.
“Myself and my business partner, Dan Shotton, have both been in the pub trade for many years. During our time together we’ve stuck to and followed the same simple philosophy when opening new sites.
“We aim to create authentic, timeless, quality pubs that are as well-known for their friendly welcome and independent spirit as they are for their great food and drink at fair prices. In a nutshell, they are pubs that we ourselves would want to drink and eat in.”
