SOME of the Millwall players are visiting Wembley today ahead of the League One play-off final against Bradford on Saturday.
Not all of them are going, however, as the majority of the squad have experience of the stadium from last year’s play-off final defeat to Barnsley.
Steve Morison, Tony Craig and Jimmy Abdou were on the Millwall side that won promotion to the Championship in 2010.
Morison believes those players going to Wembley for the second time will be motivated to experience a winning feeling this year.
“They can’t have any excuses this year in terms of getting overawed by the situation,” Morison said. “There might be a few more fans there this year than there were last year.
“Some of the boys are going down Tuesday if they want to go, but not everyone is going. Everyone’s quite comfortable with it from last year.
“You have to use that experience. That was the first time in club football I’d lost there, and it’s not something I want to repeat.
“The lads going there for the third or fourth time know what it’s like to win there. But the players going for the second time don’t want to lose again. We can use it in a positive way on Saturday.”
Morison also busted the myth of Wembley’s wide-open spaces. The Den playing surface is actually a metre longer than the Wembley pitch. Morison also referenced Vale Park, where the Lions played this season, and whose pitch is more than two metres wider than Wembley’s.
Morison said: “People say, ‘oh, it’s a massive pitch’. Our pitch is huge, so is Port Vale’s. It just seems bigger because you’ve got 90,000 seats around you. It’s a bit of a myth I think.”
